vvast and the art of Project Management

By Duncan McKean

Hi, I’m Duncan. I’m new here. I’m vvast’s Technical Project Manager for their Development Team. What does that mean, I hear you mutter? Well, let me tell you a little bit about myself, my role and my first few weeks at vvast.

I’ve got a really diverse background when it comes to employment which has given me the perfect skills for being a Project Manager. As well as previous agency PM experience, I’ve got a product design background and had a previous career as a front-end developer.

This combination makes me an excellent translator between client requirements and the development team… and back. Talking technical when needed and translating that into more layman terms for clients to understand. Which is great for my position at vvast.

My role here is to ensure the development of our core product, vvastify, and other development projects on behalf of our brands are on time and on schedule. I spend a lot of my time working with our Senior Developer and our Product Owner to ensure the right things get done at the right time by the right people. It’s a good thing I like tinkering with our internal tools to show graphs and charts of where we’re at and where we need to be.

The rest of my schedule is making sure the processes I have put in place get adhered to and the projects keep moving forward.

Starting a new job can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. From day one, I was eager to learn about the company culture, meet my colleagues, and dive into my new role. The first few weeks were a whirlwind of onboarding, meetings, getting introduced to work colleagues and external stakeholders, getting up to speed on the projects I’ll be working on.

Everybody has been very nice and you can feel that the company has a focus on collaboration and teamwork. vvast is fast-paced and dynamic and that’s an environment I thrive in, so check that off the list too! Finally, their commitment to their B-CORP journey is something I completely vibe with.

All I can say is that based on the last few weeks, I’m looking forward to growing into my Technical Project Manager role at vvast as the organisation builds on its already excellent reputation.
